Our Hybrid Homeschool Program has enjoyed an incredibly successful the last two years. The program has grown in many areas: student population, teachers, classes offered and many other wonderful aspects. The collaboration of BRIDGES and Ventura Charter School allowed us to create the first of its kind hybrid independent study/homeschool program in Ventura County.
The program’s overall philosophy encompasses the “whole child” educational philosophy, but will allow you, the family, to develop and choose your own curriculum, teaching method and adapt your child’s education exclusively to your and your student’s needs and skills. We promote a personalized learning community for you and your student.
We work hard to promote our mission to empower a community of parents, students and teachers to create and deliver innovative, high-quality, flexible and student-focused learning opportunities.
During our first year, we were able to offer a great selection of enrichment classes. For the 2011-12 school year, we have increased our class offerings and choices, based on our parents’ suggestions and input. Our classes are divided into our K-1, 2-4 and 5+ grades. We run our classes concurrently, so all students have an opportunity to take the classes offered. Our selection of classes is likely to include: writing, science/art/math, Spanish, drama and a Lego class, PE and Yoga. We are also planning on incorporating “circle time”, which will promote the school’s conflict resolution and constructive communication philosophy.
The hybrid model of our homeschool program has allowed our students to create social relationships with each other and students from the site-based classrooms as well. Homeschool students also have the option to participate in school-wide events, such as the Harvest Festival, Spelling Bee, Science Fair and more.
Our program offers our families a credentialed supervising teacher who will work with the parents and students one-on-one to create a personalized curriculum and support the parents and students throughout the school year. Our students can work at their own pace in all disciplines. We are a tuition-free, publicly funded school.
We hope that this brief introduction gives you an idea of the state-of-the-art program that we have created. We are accepting students for the current 2012/13 school year. For more information, please email Claudia Weintraub at: bridges.ventura.charter@gmail.com or call her at (805) 300-3157.
